Late Filing Penalties
As can be seen by our Events
Calendar, company accounts must be submitted to the Registrar
(Companies House) by a certain time. If this is not done, penalty
notices are levied against companies as the authorities must
receive the accounts on time. The company directors are those who
are personally responsible for this, so they must ensure that not
only are accounts sent on time, but are received by Companies House,
upon which a receipt is given.
If these accounts are late in arriving, the penalties given are
done so automatically, therefore meaning there is no chance of a
reprieve. There are different sizes of penalties based on how late
the accounts are in arriving, as is shown below:
| Delay |
Public Company |
Private Company |
| 3 months or less |
£500 |
£100 |
| 3 months 1 day to 6 months |
£1,000 |
£250 |
| 6 months 1 day to 12 months |
£2,000 |
£500 |
| Over 12 months |
£5,000 |
£1,000 |
Appeals can be made against these penalties but are only ever successful
if exceptional circumstances are behind the lateness. By using Academy

whereby they will be done in a professional manner and on time.
